| 345080 | 2005-04-15 06:07:00 | Today I booted up my computer as normal and the first thing I noticed was that the background was a different color (green - how it was about 2 months ago) and all of my user settings (msconfig etc) had been reset. It also asked me to confirm the time change for day light savings! To add to the confusion Firefox's bookmarks have completly vanished. What do you think has happened? |

| 345083 | 2005-04-15 06:27:00 | Can't tell you what has happened or why but I would suggest backing up your personal files and data then try restoring the registry. The forum's Registry FAQ (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz ) has information on how to do this. | FoxyMX (5) | ||

Windows 98: Select Start, Run, then type scanreg and press Enter. When you're told that there are no errors, click Yes to back up the Registry, then OK. To restore the Registry, select Start, Shut Down, click Restart in MS-DOS mode, and click OK. At the C:\WINDOWS> prompt, type scanreg /restore (don't forget to put a space before the slash) and press Enter. Select a backup from the list and press Enter again. The only problem with this is that it only holds a max of I think its 5 copies. So if it has been a few days since this happened or you've rebooted heaps, it may not be restorable anymore. |

| 345085 | 2005-04-15 12:21:00 | not a good idea to try and restore your registry while still in windows, theres a very good chance of corruption or access volation error message. Reason..... the registry you are try to replace is in use. If you do what to try this do a f8 boot choose command prompt only which means basicly you are using dos and not the 98 GUI use the same command set that pctek gave you. oh pctek you can change that default of 5 backups, search for scanreg.ini you can change that default in there |
