344913 2005-04-14 20:37:00 I have inherited too 17" fujitsu siemens monitors from work. The only problem is; I have them because we got broken into whoever stole the base units cut all the cables attached including the 15pin VGA plugs. Can I get replacements so I can rewire them? I've looked everywhere on the net.

I just realised that this is a New Zealand site and I'm in the UK which isn't the brightest news but if anybody can lead me down the right path I would be v. appreciative.

Cheers

344915 2005-04-15 03:50:00 The plug you want is called a "miniature D High Density 15 pin plug". Maplins or Radiospares will have them. So will Jaycar, an Australian company which have recently expanded to the UK. Their NZ web site is www.jaycar.co.nz probably you'll find them with ".co.uk" with the UK prices.

The trick will be locating the appropriate connections for each of the wires. perhaps you can locate a service manual.

www.dse.co.nz
Enter X8405, cl more, cl specs
Any help?

Look at
www.pixmania.co.uk

Is this the monitor you have?.

344917 2005-04-15 05:08:00 Enter that "X8405" type number in the Search window to see a VGA cable.

It might be easier to cut and strip a built cable and splice individual wires to the ones from the monitor than to connect to a plug.

Jaycar's type number for what they call a "D15HD Male Connector" is PP0851.

I'd run with Graham's suggestion, it is faster and easier (and probably a lot cheaper) to cut the unwanted end off a commercial cable or cut the cable off a dud monitor and splice it to the stub of the old one.

Provided the monitor is in good condition it might even be economic to get your local TV/Electronics repair shop to do it if you are not too sure about doing it yourself.

If you stagger the individual wire lengths you don't even need to insulate each individual joint, just tape up the whole lot in one go when you have finished. With reasonable care you can even test before taping if you do it this way.

344919 2005-04-15 08:32:00 Presumed that what PhilCollins had was a cut cable sticking out the back of each monitor and he wanted to splice to each cut cable another length of cable plus a plug to fit his base unit. The X8405 spec drawing of a VGA male male cable was intended to give details of the plug and cable run to assist splicing.
If he has access to a couple of old monitors with the correct plug agree chop and splice, but suspect he most likely would be able to buy a cable similar to X8405 with both plug ends to suit his base units and cut cable in two for splicing to each monitor.

344920 2005-04-22 10:25:00 Thanks for the help I went out the next day and bought a male male extension cable so I could splice the ends to each monitor. Suprise! 12 wires and mine had 9.

For the sake of interest this is the monitor

Monitor spec (www.fujitsu-siemens.ch)

Gone shopping for another cable.

Cheers.

344922 2005-04-22 11:31:00 I reckon that's a Philips monitor in drag, probably a 107S or similar .

You don't need a different cable, just check the colour codes and you should be able to splice them together . Extra wires in your cable can just be ignored .

Cheers
