344820 2005-04-15 04:00:00 Top of the line PC Computer jobbie???
They never made one

It doesn't matter how new the machine is
I've just repaired a corrupt SP2 install yesterday on a machine 8mths old
The board didn't support the Celeren/SP2 Combo
That's 3 this month
I could build you a brand spanker today with a board I bought a year ago that won't take SP2 and you wouldn't know the diff.

I appreciate your comments,thanks.
So what do I look for exactly?

344821 2005-04-15 04:09:00 Two questions.

How much money do you have to spend?
Then what do you want to do with it?

Look out for good warrenty and good component brand names

Get Everest, run it and post here what it says regarding the motherboard brand and model number and the details regarding the CPU.

If it is one of the big brand PC's their website might have some info on how to prepare for SP2.

Look here (www.hp.com) if it is a HP or Compaq, other makers may have simmilar information.

344825 2005-04-15 06:32:00 Sounds good Pres, how exactly does one get if you cant connect?

good point, but i was more thinking on the lines of you downloading it and putting it on a cd....
ive used this alot when these nasties take over your pc and stuff up your net settings and all that jazz....

but its good to see that you have it fixed :)

Find out Brand name & Model of MOBO & go to manufacturers site & check any info regarding driver & BIOS updates
The BIOS revisions will will have info regarding compatibility with Celeron D CPU's if they needed them
There is a list of affected MOBO's floating around & I can't find it at the mo'
I'll post when I do
Try the MS site, I'm sure there was a partial list there somewhere of affected boards

I note Bart's dad was able to identify the make, even though I put name down wrong. That should have been PC Company, not PC Computers.
I will get info off here computer and post as suggested.
The urgency has gone a bit as by now they will sunning themselves in Raratonga.

344828 2005-04-15 10:05:00 Instead of SP2, why not install Firefox, tick no popups, and install free Zone alarm. Might help keep it safe a bit longer. That is what I did with son in laws puter, when I got sick of trying to get rid of spyware, adware, viruses's and trojans. Don't get nearly as many now, and don't have to spend hours trying to clean out his puter. LOL supergran (108)
344829 2005-04-15 10:10:00 nah it might be better to install sp2.... im thinking of putting it on my system now..... Prescott (11)
