Download a very useful tool from http://www.dougknox.com/ called 'xp emergency utilitiy' It will create a usable backup copy of Taskmgr.exe, MSConfig.exe and Regedit.EXE in a new folder, called C:\EmergencyUtils. The new copies will be named Copy_of_Taskmgr.exe, Copy_of_MSConfig.exe and Copy_of_Regedit.com. And will give you access to the tools you need Read the instructions on the site carefully It can be found under the XP Utilities section of the site or click here xp_emegencyutil.exe (www.dougknox.com) to download There are instructions onscreen when you launch it And also make sure you have all the latest uodates for adaware, spybot etc It never ceases to amaze me how may people say these tool don't do the job properly when the definitions are months old Also use Spybots Mode > Advanced > Tools > Startup list feature to remove startup items completely that are causing problems from "msconfig" |
