2005-04-16 02:06:00 | On my laptop I have installed a camera, Bs350u2. I opened up the camera and then selected capture file or whatever, it records to where I told it to. Well the two files I came out as plain files, they werne't .wmv's of mp3's, just plain old files. So no problem right? I just changed the files to .wmv's so I could play them in winamp, well, they won't play. Won't play in anything, windows media player can't play them, nothing can. The information is there though because of the size of the files, the movies are there, they just won't play. Any ideas? | Yaminn (7906) | |
2005-04-16 02:09:00 | They might be .avi files. My partners camera records in that format | Myth (110) | |
2005-04-16 02:32:00 | Well the two files I came out as plain files so what was the file ext ?? often they are quicktime (mov), AVI (camera software will often have the codec required) or mpeg.

2005-04-22 07:58:00 | the files are at the moment .wmv's I tacked that on the end of the file names because there was nothing, there was no extension, I put that there and now they are .wmv's which won't play in winamp even though .wmv is what plays in winamp. | Yaminn (7906) | |
2005-04-22 08:16:00 | Have you changed the file extension to mpeg/mpg (as was suggested to you in the other forum)? | Myth (110) | |
2005-04-22 11:22:00 | Do you have file extensions showing by default? Open Windows Explorer, click on Tools; Folder Options; View and ensure "Hide File Extensions for known file types" is unchecked. Now look at the file name. Is it now xxxxxx.avi.wmv (or something similar). If so, get rid of the .wmv If it isn't a .wmv file in the first place calling it one won't make any difference. The internal code of the file won't work as a wmv.

2005-04-25 19:51:00 | I do have hide file extensions unchecked, and I just tried changing to mpg/mpeg and no luck. I don't know what to do here or where to get info on the subject but I'm thinking there has to be a way. Mythix what other forum did I post this question in?

2005-04-26 02:13:00 | What brand of camera? What type of camera - web? video? phone? Did the software come with the camera? Did you install the Mac version of software instead of Windows? (reason I ask this one is a vague, possibly incorrect, memory that Macs don't use file extensions) Which OS does it require to run? What OS do you have on the laptop?
