345911 2005-04-17 06:01:00 Hey guys,

I have been experiencing really slow jetstream speeds recently . I'm on Jetstream Plus (2Mbit/s,10G) and I'm getting downloads in the range of 30-50 kbytes/s . I've called up telecom and they said there had been many complaints from my area and they can't do anything about it until more people complain .

Is anyone experiencing this in Christchurch? I'm in the Riccarton area .

Data from . jetstreamgames . co . nz/speed/ADSLdownload500 . html" target="_blank">www . jetstreamgames . co . nz

Your line speed is approximately 249 . 4 Kbps or 30 . 6 K bytes/sec
( Where kb = kilobits and kB = kiloBytes )

The highest I've gotten was 51 K bytes/sec at 4 in the morning .

345912 2005-04-17 06:34:00 What? Until more people complain?? Tell them you demand a refund each month that you are not getting full speed. Pester them. Fair go even. pctek (84)
345913 2005-04-18 15:19:00 Hey there, just found this forum.

Yes I live in riccarton and get slow speeds and bad pings,

I had a service tech that does jobs for Telecom investigate my lines etc..., he tested everything! then he tested my lines all the way to the exchange...

the reason is simple, telecom have put to many "customers" into one exchange (riccarton exchange, located on Riccarton rd) so with over 600 connections all into one exchange everything is peaking out 24/7. He said its called the D03 or DC03 hub or seomthing.

He called his boss and he told some more people. Finds out that someone high-up in Telecom aready knows, and they are getting on to it....

anyway I have got free internet until this problem is fixed. and i suggest anyone in ricc getting the same problem to call them up and do the same.

They now say its been looked at and the job to make bandwidth bigger will start this week or next (18th april)so in a couple of weeks everything should be fine again.

telecom are ripping us off!!! usual story i bet

345914 2005-04-19 00:57:00 This doesnt have anything to do with CHCH, but why have they slowed down the upstream? annoying.

I sent them this email

Hi,
I would like to ask why the 2mbps plans upstream speed has dropped to 128k. I had purposely upgraded to that plan so I could have the (still slow) 192k upstream, and then I was reading your site in the weekend and found out you slowed it down to 128k! Why? Telstra offer 512kbps on their 2mbps plan, why can’t you?
All I can say is that I am very, very disappointed with your service

Hope i dont get my jetstream disabled, but i want to make a point as im sick of xtra, and their making all their wholesale places go slow as well! Why cant they grow up and get used to competition? I wish i could get telstra where im moving............

345915 2005-04-19 07:09:00 Thanks for the advice Tim . I have called them up, and I am getting a refund for the two months that I had to endure with this slow speed . They do assure me that they are doing all they can, but I'm not too convinced . But they did ask me to ring up next month to get another refund if things don't get fixed by then .

I think that Telecom is really ripping us off! How could they not know that putting the entire Riccarton area on one exchange will cause problems! I hope that this will be fixed soon .

They slowed it down because 128k is the minimum requirement for broadband as defined by the commerce commission.

The 128k restriction only applies to new connections or plan changes. People on existing plans retain the 192k upload.

345918 2005-04-19 08:32:00 Cool, is there somewhere i can test it just to make sure?

Surely telecom could do better than what is required........ btw here is the reply from the email i sent

Do to legal requirements through the telecommunications act we need to bring our plans in line with the other Broadband plans offered to other broadband providers that use our service.

We now offer the exact same plans as that the other providers have on offer who use our service

I think that Do is meant to be a Due

It just shows how they want to be as good as everyone else, not better

It just shows how they want to be as good as everyone else, not betterNope . It shows that the Commerce Commission forced them to bring their plans into line with those they were wholesaling to UBS providers so they didn't have an unfair competitive advantage .

Take that with a grain of salt though .

345920 2005-04-19 08:39:00 Strange, why would they want to slow down nz's internet? The only FTP server i can use is on my network, so i cant do a proper test.....
