345754 2005-04-16 11:37:00 I recently tried to put a fat 32 partion onto 1 of my hardrives and was having trouble and changed the partion of the wrong drive. i think ive wiped everything from my other drive.. is there any way to get it back? helpmeee (7912)
345755 2005-04-16 12:32:00 1st off don't write anything to the drive.

2ndly if you have a spare drive then clone the drive in it's existing state using Ghost or similar.

3rdly use an undelete or partition recovery program, Powerquests partition Magic or GRC's Spinrite will be of help.

It is a desirable precaution to make the recovery attempts on an exact copy of the disk, but ...

DO NOT DO ANYTHING TO IT WITH ANY MICROSOFT PARTITIONER.

That will only make things worse. If that's possible. (Microsoft try harder. ;))

You might not be out of trouble yet. Changing the filesystem might have done the damage. If MS went ahead and formatted it (in their ever-helpful way :groan: ) you probably have real problems.

The *nix based partitioners just change the partition table information. Formatting is done by a different programme. Recovery using gpart relies on being able to restore the partition table to the way it was before the "accident", without actually touching the data areas.
