| 346465 | 2005-04-18 16:09:00 | hey i recently bought an lcd monitor and hooked it up to my radeon 9800xt card.yesterday i got home from work and my freind tells me the computer isnt working.h said he accidently pushed the red button on the plug switch on the wall and everything shut off.i checked everything and the monitor turns on fine and the computer also still turns on.BUT the monitor turns off after 3 seconds and then the power light on it just flashes.So i cant do anything with my computerbecause monitor just shuts off.i called about the problem and they said it might be my graphic card drivers.and i tired another monitor to see if it was just the lcd and the other one did the same thing.the graphic card also has power cause the fan on it is still running when i boot the computer.please help me out. | kiLLme (7630) | ||

| 346468 | 2005-04-18 20:47:00 | Doesn't sound like a graphics card driver issue, sounds more like mobo or cpu or RAM. Or VRAM on your graphix card Is the computer still under warranty? If so; take it back... Don't even attempt to open it. Have you tried swapping your RAM with known working RAM? Or swap with a known good graphix card? These last 2 only apply if the computer is not under warranty |

| 346470 | 2005-04-19 05:05:00 | To me it sounds like a monitor cable problem.Trevor:) Not likely to be a cable fault if it is the same when using two different monitors. Sounds more like the computer has suffered a major crash. Maybe trying a boot from a floppy or CD might help identify the root of the problem. Could be that the HDD has gone west but you would still expect POST to proceed if that was the case. Cheers Billy 8-{) |

| 346471 | 2005-04-19 06:41:00 | I notice from another post of yours this morning that you state that your monitor works with a standard VGA cable but not with the DVI cable? - See post (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) (BTW, the answer is "no" to that question) Is this the situation? Your issues only happen when you use the DVI cable? I take it your graphic card wasn't freshly installed as well because it requires an independent power supply and will add extra demand to your PSU. |
