| 346235 | 2005-04-18 01:44:00 | Hi guys :). A friend from out of town dropped off his computer - Compaq Presario,1.8 ghz,256 mb ram,40 gig hdd. Unfortunately somebody had, had a play with it while he was out of town, they had networked it to their lappy, which was infected wtih a virus which is known to spread via mapped drives and network shares (Win32.Parite/Pinfi), in turn infecting his system etc... Anyway i have dealt with the virus no probs. However (I don't know if this is virus related?), i noticed that when logging off and reaching the welcome screen, the bottom button(red), which normally says "Turn off computer" - says "Turn off Music". The system will however turn off normally with the button, its just that the description is wrong...(which annoys me thoroughly ;) ). Can anybody tell me where i can change this back (presume its a reg. edit) to read what it should? I have had a good search but haven't found anything regarding this? Any help appreciated, thanks. As a side note there are no programs installed that could/should affect this either, also this computer has never been connected to the net (until now to do the virus updates etc... which i have done), so the only other possiblity is its somethig off the lappy they copied over maybe? I have tried using SFC, cleaned it out with Spybot just in case (which wasn't nescessary as it hadn't been online though). Finally i would use/try a repair with the recovery discs - however he didn't make any, so i am going to do that too (make the recovery discs), but i would like to sort this out first, and really it seems to be running well now, just this niggle. Cheers |

Check and see what the computer name is in the System Properties because from memory when I saw this it had "Turn off computer name " Don't know how it got to be like this though?? Maybe a free program from the net?? |

| 346238 | 2005-04-18 03:40:00 | Thanks guys, i had tried changing the xp theme to classic and back already and also knew it wasn't the computers name either..., so i didn't check the properties again (cause i knew the puter name). However Cyabro - you were close enough  - it was actually the computer ""Description" i.e he uses this computer for his "Music" composing etc... so they obviously put that in description from day one, lol. Cheers CYaBro ;) , one less thing to worry about (i was pretty sure it wasn't Virus related or 3rd party program as he hadn't been online) another handy thing to know :D . |
