346957 2005-04-20 03:16:00 I used to use WS_ftp LE to upload files to websites and found that it did everything i wanted but now I have found this is no longer available. I have had a look around but have'nt found anything suitable. All I want is a basic FTP programme that I don't have to pay for. Can anyone reccomend something. ad_267 (6193)

346959 2005-04-20 03:27:00 If you are quick, you might be able to get WS_ftp LE from some sites which have their own copies for download. ;)

"ws_ftp le download" to Google looks encouraging. (The frognet.net site near the bottom of the first page of links might be a good bet).

I'm pretty sure it's been on cover CDs from APC or PCAuthority fairly recently.

346960 2005-04-20 03:37:00 Thanks for your help. I must have been looking in all the wrong places, all I could find were 30 day trials. ad_267 (6193)

346964 2005-04-20 06:03:00 I like SmartFTP, it works and looks like Windows Explorer but it can be set up to look like WS_FTP etc...

Free download from http://www.smartftp.com

346965 2005-04-20 06:14:00 Assuming we're on windows ... I like LeechFTP (www.download.com) . It hasn't been updated for years and years but it is very easy to use. Every so often it has a fit and throws an error message in German - just close it and relaunch. It doesn't like files larger than ~1.5Mb(?) either - it seems to upload them okay but it doesn't know it so it keeps on putting them up again. Otherwise it's really easy to use. Oh, it doesn't store your passwords and usernames - which may be good or not. Anyhow, like I said, it's incredibly easy to use and has a far more intuitive interface than most others.

If you have Linux & KDE then KBear is fairly usable.

346966 2005-04-20 07:51:00 I recommend SmartFTP (www.smartftp.com/) over WSFTP LE, though personally I use WinSCP (http:) (my host uses sftp).

On the subject of ftp, does anyone know of a good download manager that can manage a download from a private ftp server (one you need to login into with a password)? The last few I've tried only have a setting for an anonymous login (eg, enter your email address here type). The ones I've tried so far are LeechGet (my main download manager) FlashGet and some other one which wasnt very good at even managing downloads.
