2005-04-20 08:29:00 | is there anyway for me to make it so my comptuer will turn itself on by itself, at say 2am. | Mirddes (10) | |
2005-04-20 08:45:00 | Wake on LAN, wake on ring, have a UPS wake it if you have one. All open to attack to a certain extent, UPS is probably the safest. | Murray P (44) | |

2005-04-20 09:21:00 | Wake on ring would most probably be something like when the phone rings . Thats if anyone rings u at 2 am lol Check your bios, see what options are there . Some mobos like the other pc here, have the option to boot on any day and at any time . If there are no options in the BIOS, get a timer which plugs into the power and set it to 2 . am to turn the pc on .

2005-04-20 10:04:00 | Wake on Ring, wake on LAN can be turned on in the bios and set in your modem or network adapter settings. Both need a signal either from a phone call or over a network to activate them. The internet is a network, which is why they can be security risks. Schedule + Suspend, the computer is not off in that case is it? UPS's that control the power (on/off) to you machine, with the right software capabilities are handy for these types of tasks as they can comminicate directly with the PC without having to rely on an external source for the signal.

2005-04-20 10:10:00 | A comp worth its salt would have a wake-on-alarm setting in the bios, set the old girl like an alarm clock and she fires up like....uh....clockwork. | Metla (12) | |
2005-04-20 10:40:00 | no harm in leaving it on 24/7, just make sure you have good air flow | Prescott (11) | |
2005-04-20 11:46:00 | well an easy way is to have it set to turn on after power loss (comman bios setting) and then use one of those power timer switches and you can set that to any time you want. | tweak'e (69) | |
2005-04-20 13:39:00 | go for the wake at a specified time feature, if you got it. my asus mobo has that, but then my asus mobo likes to turn my computer on if you just look at it. | Agent_24 (57) | |
