347043	2005-04-20 07:56:00	Hi All I have read through a few posts here and have got myself partially set up with no-ip.com to host a test webpage. I'm trying to prove this concept before I take this any further but have got myself stuck. I'm a newbie when it comes to hosting but am learning as I go. My set up : Dynalink RTA230 router, host PC is running Win98 with Zone Alarm, ADSL with Xtra, D-Link DES-1008D switch running the network with fixed LAN IP addresses. I have set up a web address with no-ip.com and have also downloaded their dynamic update ip address controller and that seems to be working ok. I downloaded simpleserver from analogx to host my test page and have run it on the Win 98 PC and have pointed the software to a webpage in a shared directory on the Win98 PC, by following their very simple instructions. The webpage(s) were created using Front Page 2003 and it has the same domain name as the first part of the no-ip address. There is a page index.html that I pointed to the simple server programme. I granted access to the web for both simple server and the no-ip DUC programmes through Zone Alarm. In my router I have set up a port forwarding on port 80 to the LAN address of the PC. (<- is that the correct thing to do?) I then check the IP address is current using the DUC programme, start the hosting on simple software and open a browser (either IE or FF). If I enter the Is this normal? And once I enter the password how do I then get to the webpage being hosted? The browser then shows http://xxxx.no-ip.xxx/main.html" target="_blank">xxxx.no-ip.xxx address (not actually x's) into the browser, I get into my router password screen. Is this normal? And once I enter the password how do I then get to the webpage being hosted? The browser then shows http: instead of index.html. Have I missed a crucial step or have I done something wrong? I realise I may not get to my hosted page from within my own LAN but at this stage I think I have done something wrong and would appreciate some pointers. Thanks in advance Andrew	andrew93 (249)
347044	2005-04-20 08:09:00	Here's the deal: Most routers arent smart enough to send data out into the world and then accept it back in, so you'll need to ask somebody to test your no-ip and your port-forwarding remotely. PM me if you want. So far it seems like you're fine :)	Chilling_Silence (9)

Cheers, Andrew Bit Torrent by far is the quickest and most efficent to use. Kazaa, Imesh etc. is good if you like spyware and viruses, and also renamed files. If you want a good P2P with search functionality, then I can throughly recommend Overnet/Edonkey/Emule network. Azureus can be found here: => http://azureus.sourceforge.net Emule +: => sourceforge.net Both PROGRAMS have Linux distro's too. Also regarding the RTA230, I have one of those, and it has a built in host configuration for a free service called Dynip (http://www.dyndns.org) If you register for their service, then you can configure the RTA230 with your login name nad passwrod for the srvice, and it will automatically update the dyndns service with you new IP address (When it changes).
