347700 2005-04-22 21:39:00 Heya,

I amn the sole helpdeks person at work, and lately have been having the boss rip me a new ******* because people say that I aren't doing what they ask.

Does anyone know of any godd helpdeks software, that the end users can enter their problem on, and then all the details will be there and I can prove that I am doing my job properly.

Needs to be able to run on a Novel network.

Thank in advance.

Peter

347702 2005-04-22 22:02:00 Dunno if your boss will wnat to fork out for software if theres just you. I worked at a place once without a setup helpdesk and we logged everything into Excel. Time and date, user, problem, time and date of resolution (if not over the phone). What we did to solve it. A bit time consuming but it kept a record. pctek (84)
347703 2005-04-22 22:04:00 we use a spread sheet for logging calls and use email for a asstance requests of which copies are kept, theres two of us administrating a novell network. beama (111)
347704 2005-04-23 00:44:00 Seems to me you could use a good flatfile database - if lucky you will have MSWorks which I always use as I can write a database in that in about 45 seconds flat. Obviously you would need a date - perhaps even time input - query id - details of the query - answer - comments. I just tried doing it myself and it took well under 45 seconds to complete the database.
The idea of using spreadsheets is OK also but risky, clumsy and too wobbly for my taste.
I keep a daily log in MSWorks dbase - my present one has over 5400 entries and it finds virtually anything in seconds. Providing you only need a flatfile it beats OFFICE iinto a frazzle.
