| 348278 | 2005-04-24 10:27:00 | just a brief rundown of everything before i go into the details, i live in Australia, so if i mention prices or is it worth it, its in australian currency, just to avoid confusion, also i plan to overclock and the system is meant for gaming, mainly for mmo's(guild wars/wow) and cs source n **** like that anyway i been looking at prices, and reviews and everything and ive seen alot of different choices n such im leaning towards these AMD Athlon 64 3500 64 Bit CPU ASUS A8N-SLI-DLX Asus A8N SLI Deluxe AMD64 MB VDGI6600GT-E1 Gigabyte GF 6600GT PCI-E x16 128M are they all compatable?, will they run fine together?, will it run those above games well?, im a little confused on what graphics card i can run on that motherboard, and is it worth upgrading to DDR2(can the board support it?) sorry about all the questions, just trying to get my head around it also the thought came to me, i have a fairly crappy comp currently, im runnin antec smartblue 350w powersupply, is that going to be enough for that system? thanks alot for your time, please drop a message |

| 348279 | 2005-04-24 10:50:00 | That all looks alright to me the mobo runs DDR 400 Ram and the CPU will be compatible if its socket 939 and yep that video card is compatible to  | Overdrive_5000 (4950) | ||
| 348280 | 2005-04-24 10:53:00 | First of all, when I look on the Australian and NZ pricespy I see little difference after you take the currency and hassle into account. You won't save more than $10-$20 on the core components such as CPU and GFX. As for your hardware queries, The motherboard and CPU are both good choices. However, I would go with the Leadtek Extreme 6600GT 128MB, which is available for $410 from Ascent:Ascent6600GT Extreme (www.ascent.co.nz) and even cheaper elsewhere (check pricespy.co.nz) I would personally downgrade the CPU to a Ath64 3400+ as that would save about $80 which is about a 16% reduction in cost. Cheers and good luck in your purchase. You'll have a killer system and seeing as you're buying an SLI board you can always buy a 2nd 6600 later on. |

I have that board and CPU myself. :-) Yes its fine for your games, in fact will run higher specced games too. Your PSU is fine also, nice good quality one. Being an Antec I don't need to ask if it has at least 18a on the 12v, of course it does. And when you get more money you could add another VDGI6600GT-E1 and it would really rock. :-) Not that you NEED to... |

| 348282 | 2005-04-24 11:07:00 | I am unfamiliar with that powersupply brand so would not know if it is a good one or not but for that setup you will need a good solid PSU of 350W otherwise you could run into trouble. AMD Athlon 64 CPUs over 3200/3400 need a bit more grunt and combined with that graphics card I would be wanting at least 400W with that system unless the PSU is a good heavy one. Edit: Oops, I didn't see the "Antec" in front of the "Smartblue". Still not familiar with that one but Antec are supposed to be good. |

I didn't see any mention of the PSU. Am I going blind? But Antec supplies are sure to pump out the right kind of juice. I don't recommend getting the Gigabyte 6600GT though. The Leadtek version outperforms it heaps and for not much more expense. Downgrade the CPU to a 3400+ and get the Leadtek with your saving! |

| 348286 | 2005-04-24 11:52:00 | Check these figures ( . graphics . tomshardware . com/graphic/20050404/geforce_6600-30 . html#3d_mark_2005" target="_blank">www20 . graphics . tomshardware . com) out . As you can see, the Leadtek Extreme comes 2nd only to the 6800 and X800 . In Half Life 2 it even beats the 6800 . Definitely faster than the Gigabyte . What did you think about downgrading on the CPU . It is a good saving for very little drop in performance . |
