2005-04-24 12:11:00 | will lower DDR sticks work on motherboard or only DDR400? DDR memory is backwards compatible. DDR133, DDR266 e.t.c will all work. However, all modules will run at the speed of the lowest speed module. For example if you had 3 DDR400 modules and one DDR 266 all four would run at DDR 266 speed. A new standard of DDR called DDR2 has recently become available - but it is keyed differently and will not fit in ordinary DDR sockets - and is therefore uncompatible with DDR xxx.

I'll forgive you if you're confused by the stupid codes and numbers these Taiwanese/Chinese/Japanese companies give their products. Go the 6600GT. I only wish I'd asked the same questions before I purchased mine. I got stuck with the fish-like Gigabyte version. |

2005-04-24 22:10:00 | Check these figures (www20.graphics.tomshardware.com) out. As you can see, the Leadtek Extreme comes 2nd only to the 6800 and X800. In Half Life 2 it even beats the 6800. Definitely faster than the Gigabyte. What did you think about downgrading on the CPU. It is a good saving for very little drop in performance. They don't recommend it though - they pick the Gainward as best and Gigabyte as 2nd.

2005-04-25 01:19:00 | They don't recommend it though - they pick the Gainward as best and Gigabyte as 2nd. I don't understand that recommendation... The Leadtek Extreme TDH beat the Gainward and Gigabyte in 80% of the speed tests. The Gainward is more expensive and the Leadtek has a very quiet fan. What evidence did you see for the Gainward or Gigabyte rating higher?

2005-04-25 01:24:00 | Leadtek Geforce 6600GT 128Mb 16X PCI-E WinFast PX6600 GT TD 128Mb thats what the info is on the computer site i been looking at , that not the correct one? =\ Leadtek Extreme TDH (www.ascent.co.nz) that link is the one I am recommending. It costs about $50 more than Leadteks standard 6600GT but it is well worth it. You can find it slightly cheaper ($20 less) at C1 Shopping Mall. (http://www.c1computer.co.nz/) I prefer Ascent myself. What CPU are you going to run with now? I recommend the 3400+ It costs $80 less!
