2005-04-24 01:22:00 | G'day All. I have built a Family Tree on a word Document... WE also now have Legacy Treemaker v5 .. Is it possible to transfer the Word doc. into into a Tree programme? That would save me having to enter every name etc. Lazy huh? Thanks PJ

2005-04-24 01:47:00 | Not unless the genealogy program can read one of Words formats. like rtf, txt, etc. | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |

Query would this freebie convert a copy of your Word Doc into GenPro, produce a GEDCOM that could be entered into Legacy. http://www.genpro.com The problem maybe that if your Word Doc was'nt produced by GenPro you may not be able to convert into GenPro. |

2005-04-24 05:29:00 | Hard luck PJ - genealogy progs are databases and the only import way is via Gedcom. Yours is a familiar problem ( others have done the same sort of thing) so just start entering your data into Legacy. Have fun...! Cheers Tony

2005-04-24 06:18:00 | PJ - have a look at www.tedpack.org - but it might be easier to start over. | TonyF (246) | |
2005-04-24 06:21:00 | Ok Thanks All.It was worth a try. Doing it on Word was the electronic way of laying it out as I wrote it out years ago, when I first started. I find easier to follow like this :- Him M Her b1824 1848 b1826 | | Child 1 Child 2 Child 3 Child 4 etc b1849 b1850 b1852 b1854 | | Child 1 M Her 2 b1849 1872 b1851 | | Child a Child b Child c Child 4 Etc. & so on PJ

2005-04-24 06:40:00 | Hi PJ. I ran the Wellington Genealogy Computing Group for some years, and we had several cases like yours. The worst was a chap who had some 10,000 names in an ancient prog running on Commodore 64, and who was quite distressed on finding out he had to start again. His prog had no gedcom facility ( it was pre-gedcom) and it had quite vanished from the scene. Cheers Tony
