348734 2005-04-25 23:10:00 I have always used Adaware-SE to scan for "bugs" & usually found between 5 & 10 every week.
Since Microsoft Anti Spy has been running, I have not found a single "greeby" with Adaware. It seems that the Microsoft prog really does hit them on the head upon entry.

All I need is a version for Windows ME.

348735 2005-04-25 23:20:00 I haven't found a single one since installing a firewall. pctek (84)
348736 2005-04-25 23:27:00 I use MS giant and find one very occasionally with Adaware SE kjaada (253)
348737 2005-04-26 00:41:00 MS Antispyware Beta, seems to do a pretty good job. Be aware though that it is beta software and is limited in the software it will test, that is, MS software and MS approved ActiveX and drivers.

Do not use just one antimalware product to the exclusion of other tools, especially if it is intentionally limited.

348738 2005-04-26 01:20:00 yes the ms program is very good, probably one of the reasons is it is not their doing.
They brought recently from a company, whose name escapes me at the moment.
If you can find an orignal version of this program it will work on all MS OS.
The reason it only works on XP is that MS has stopped maintaining the old OS

348740 2005-04-26 02:35:00 Just removed about:blank off a PC - just to test I ran, Spybot, MS AntiSpyware, Spyware Doctor. None of them found it.
AVG did, sort of, warning.
Dunno about AD-Aware - the lady had it but said she had been unable to remove it.
CWShredder found it, said it removed it but it hadn't properly.

348741 2005-04-26 03:10:00 dosn't MS antispyware have a spyware blocking or on access type scanner ?

adaware free finds spyware, its dosn't stop em. i bet those "bugs" are proberly just cookies or other such minor things.

a firewall will not stop your pc from getting infected by spyware.

the trouble with a lot of spyware such as about:blank is there is always new vers going around. if you get a new ver then no scanner will be able to remove it. you might want to send details of it to adaware etc so they can include it in their defs.
