348754 2005-04-26 11:21:00 3) The link doesn't mention firewalls, just different ways of getting spyware other than downloading it purposely.
and a firewall will not stop any of those ways mentioned. you let the browser through the firewall to download data and that data can includes malware or virus's whether you wanted it or not.

348755 2005-04-26 12:14:00 I'm too lazy to check. Does it work on Windows 2000?

If not, Yawn, I'm switching to Linux.

MS AntiSpyware? Yes.

I see you have a Linux box project, anyway or because of? Mepis should be fine with your Wlan and Gigabyte board, run it as a live CD to test.

348758 2005-04-26 18:13:00 I deleted MS anti spy yesterday. I have been useing it since it was first released and in all that time it did not find a single thing. I had it set to auto-run it did a full scan every morning.
Yet Ad-Aware which runs after this finds 7-12 "Tracking Cookies" every day.

I'm inclined to think that people are becomming paranoid about virus's and spam and spyware.

Since ISP's have been blocking Spam and Virus's I have not had a single virus and spam is almost non-existant.

348759 2005-04-26 19:10:00 I regularly check my system on Fri noons before going home. Adaware always picks up 3-5 bugs, while MS Antispyware shows no infections. I'd really like to see this work.

It would be a good thing to see folks become paranoid about Spyware, imo. Not enough folks take the threats to their PC serious enough. While I personally don't have any serious issues on my personal machines, I treat it everyday, firewalled, AV'd webfiltered or not.

I'm inclined to agree. If you use Firefox, for eg, MS AS does not check it or it's temp files, only IE which would have been sitting idle. How do you munt a perfectly good anti-spyware programme by limiting it's usefulleness? Let MS soert it out :groan:

348762 2005-04-26 23:23:00 i said it before i'll say it again....what one person calls spyware another calls it legit.
i think MS are more concerned with the malicious kind, tho somehow i doubt MS would be detecting alexa ;)

mind you i just had mcafee antivirus flag one of my sicurity tools as a virus, go figure.
