348964 2005-04-30 01:52:00 Larry here again after some days off air.

I have uninstalled the hardware and sw, rebooted the PC, and then reinstalled everything. Exactly the same symptoms appear.

Also the dat file you sent Speedy did not make any difference. The file is certainly there and the same size as mine.

Another symptom I have experienced is when on TV and change channel the sound goes to mute. If I unmute then the mute light goes out but there is still no sound. Again this symptom reappeared after reinstalling. The only way to get sound is to go to FM and then back to TV.

There is an icon appearing on the right of the task bar which enables the choice of TV FM Network or Unload. If I choose FM it goes to TV. If I choose TV it goes to TV!! This icon is there even though there is no sign of the program in the start up tab. Does this mean a startup file is hidden somewhere else which could be causing problems?

At this stage I have now gone back to the suppliers (Ascent) and asked if they have any experience with this card and if not can the supply another sample.

348965 2005-04-30 03:14:00 How are you examining the startup?

start>run>type MSCONFIG,hit enter and then click teh startup tab, though I would recomend you use the statup tool in Spybot to examine what you have.

The fact that its in startup is only half the issue, hence my earlier ignored questions. You will have to set the permissions on the limited user account for thej files that Winfast makes use of.

348966 2005-04-30 06:46:00 Metla using your suggestion there is certainly a winfast file in the MSCONFIG startup. If I untick this and reboot the PC it doesn't seem to like it. A message comes up suggesting I return to the "normal" startup config. Whats the next move?

In answer to your earlier question "When you have logged onto windows can you lauch Winfast FM?,does it repeat the error?,or does it do nothing at all?" it repeats the error every time I try to open it via All Programs when lggged on as to a "limited" account. When logged on with full admin privilages the FM works but there is still the TV error noted before.

348967 2005-05-20 08:48:00 To close off this thread I have had a new application program from Leadtek which has resolved most of my problems.

If anyone needs their help use the address service@leadtek.co.tw

348968 2005-05-20 08:53:00 Hmmm....Pity I missed your prior post in the thread.

Windows always complains on the first boot after a startup program has been disabled, you just tell it not to reset the changes or bother you about it again.

From there it should have been a simple case of locating the files the app was using and giving your limited account full permission on those files.....

.....Alls well that ends well.....

348969 2005-05-20 21:39:00 Get ccleaner. See if the winfast entry in add/remove is still there. After u uninstall it. If it is, use ccleaner to remove the add/remove entry.

Then delete the Winfast folder then scan for issues with ccleaner. Delete all entries that appear as Winfast. Then download the latest version of the PVR program and the latest drivers. Then reinstall the program and the drivers for the right tuner.
