348745 2005-04-26 05:53:00 Give counterspy a try for Windows ME.

CounterSpy uses the MS antispyware definitions.

It's all tied up in the MS purchase of Giant (now called MS Antispyware Beta) and Giant's prior tie up with Counterspy. So basicall they will find much the same things although user interface is different.

348746 2005-04-26 07:52:00 I wonder when will the full version of MS Antispyware will release?

Probably as soon as MS decide they've hooked enough people in so that they can charge an exorbitant amount for it! :dogeye:

348747 2005-04-26 08:01:00 I thought I read somewhere that MS will not be charging for the Anti-Spyware app once it leaves beta stage. Jen (38)
348748 2005-04-26 08:20:00 Won't stop you downloading it on purpose but YES it does stop most of it . I myself have not had any in yonks .

sorry but your deluded (is that the right term ??) :)

the only firewall that will block any spyware is the ones with add blocking and antivirus . the firewall part dosn't stop spyware installing and its not ment to, after all how can it . spyware dosn't try to connect to your pc over the net, only worms do that . malware requires someone to download it and install it .

what a decent firewall will do is stop it from access the net FROM your pc, and alert you to its presence so you can go get rid of it .

the reason you are not getting infected is more to do with browser choice (or sicurity updates to it) and the types of programs you have downloaded and installed .

And even if you disagree wit that a small experiment I did when I first set up this PC. I installed WinXP, then Mozilla. Then before anything else downloaded SP1 - left the PC doing it and went out for an hour. Came back, installed and ran spyware checkers and it had 23.
Wiped it all out and re-did it from scratch, this time installing Zone ALarm first.
Never had one since.
So what are you saying, spyware is included in SPs from Microsofts site?

348751 2005-04-26 09:55:00 YES, some "spyware" is from MS.

the problem here is you don't say WHAT spyware they removed. odds are you remove some of the minor types such as cookies or DSO exploit. its not uncomman to get a pc thats never been on the net to have spyware.

the trouble is spyware is such a loose term, meaning everything from advertising tracking cookies to malicous programs which plays havoc with your pc. some companies flag anything remotely connected to spyware as been malicious. even MS antispyware has deleted whole programs that are not even adware.

btw that link dosn't even mention firewalls.

1) Yeah Windows.
2)If its uninvited and nosey its spyware
3) The link doesn't mention firewalls, just different ways of getting spyware other than downloading it purposely.
