348990 2005-04-26 07:46:00 after using my computer for a while (time varies) programs begin taking a long to load/appear . im running a 1 . 7ghz, 256 ram computer, so it shouldnt be the hardware + the programs load fine when i first use the computer . Im using windows XP SP2 .

this is beginning to drive me insane, sometimes it can take 5 mins for a program to appear, but after they are running, they work fine . (mind u i normally end up restarting b4 they do appear) :badpc:

btw, as soon as i open i program, it appears in the process window under windows task manager, if that helps

if anyone can offer me a reason/solution for this problem (that isnt reinstalling XP) plz post, and feel free to ask other qusetions . :help:

Or defrag the hdd.

348993 2005-04-26 08:20:00 My first port of call (if I were you) would be to check and see what processes are running (Control-Alt-Delete once> Task Manager), and then to check and see what programmes are using the most CPU resources (Processes tab in Task Manager).

Have a look for any applications that are spiking in their CPU usage.

348995 2005-04-26 08:53:00 thanx for replying, there doesnt seem to be any programs taking up my CPU, cpu usage is staying around 30%

As for the CPU, its a P4 celeron 1.7

The hard drive doesnt sound like its having too much of a fit, and its not program specific (as in it affects all programs)

ill run an adware and mcafee scan now (after it loads)

wait, svchost.exe seems to occansionlly spike my cpu to 100%... :s (svchost handles processes executed from DLLs, if that helps)

and i know i need more ram, im just too poor now :(
