1384545 2014-09-22 05:43:00 Just did a HDD scan for my WD HDD. The SMART report showed everything ok except, UltraDMA CRC errors, the value being 200 best and 001 the worst. The scan program came from Western Digital.

Can anyone tell just what UltraDMA CRC errors are, can they be fixed or is the HDD history !

Or maybe the cable. If its bent or kinked. Try replacing it

Don't think it can be a cable problem Speedy, this is an all in one computer, with the ram plugging directly into the
motherboard, hence no cables.

I have pulled out the ram sticks several times and swapped them round, just in case there is a bad contact, but nothing changed.

1384548 2014-09-22 06:38:00 Hi curly, hope you're doing good despite the issue with your hard drive. A cyclic redundancy check (CRC) is an error-detecting code commonly used in digital networks and storage devices to detect accidental changes to raw data. It is detected while communicating with the disk over the SATA cable. To fix those, you would need to check and replace the SATA cable, or re-seat it so it makes a good contact or as likely re-route it so it does not pick up noise from other nearby cables. CRC errors are not usually the disk itself, but noisy communications with it. Have you neatly tie-wrapped all the SATA cables? One of the solution is to not let them be bundled tightly with other cables. If at all the above steps failed to solve the issue for you, do follow the below link for more troubleshooting steps:

Hope it helps.

1384550 2014-09-23 03:08:00 Hi curly,

I was browsing through the forums when I stumbled upon this post. Sorry to hear about the problems with the HDD there.

You can check out their meaning with recommended technical solution here, if you haven’t done so already.
