| 1369860 | 2014-03-11 06:15:00 | Years ago I dabbled in Linux but found it to be too unfriendly. Recently I installed Puppy Precise Linux on my small Asus Eee PC 701 because I needed more space on the 4Gb drive. The improvement in Linux is incredible. Software installs on a single click. Wine also installs with a single click, and once installed most of my favorite Windows software runs on it. Boot up is very fast and it is very stable. I would use it in place of Windows except that Linux lacks Web development software. Great for Office work, web browsing and email. I find W7 to be very good, but anyone with XP could dual-boot Linux and give it a go. As for automatic updates, I always have it disabled and have never had any serious problems. If I was a Bank or had secret information I would probably allow updates. Having said that, people quite happily store files on "The Cloud" etc, who knows what happens to them! |
