That wasn't my point. I don't have a problem with UAC anyway

1369841 2014-03-09 19:27:00 Windows XP has file permissions as well, but IMO Windows 7 handles (and uses) them far better.

How anyone could say Windows XP is an upgrade from Windows 7 is beyond me...
If you have a W7 computer that does not do what you want, you can either upgrade it or replace it. If the machine is a solid performer that is ergonomically excellent, an upgrade is worthy of consideration. Swapping out a HDD for a SDD adds capacity, and speeds things up amazingly. Lots more RAM sped things up a little more. Tossing out W7 and installing XP sped things up even more, and enabled the use of highly efficient and useful software. I suppose I could have installed W.ait, but that would have resulted in a marked speed drop, a loss of utility, an increase in annoyance factor and a major increase in cost, so installing W.ait would in fact be a major downgrade. Having a near-new date on the OS does not seem to me a good enough reason to take a major performance hit at great expense and inconvenience.
The computer is there for what it does for me; I could care less what it does for the M$ balance sheet (but not a lot less ;) ). Your goals may vary.

Microsoft will flash up a monthly on-screen reminder on XP computers, starting today, to warn users of the end of support.

NOW will be a good time to disable Automatic window updates other wise who ever still insists on using XP will be reminded that is over :D

I haven't been impressed with the quality of English on Microsoft's website for quite some time. It seems they have started outsourcing their write-ups to non-native English speakers from ???

1369847 2014-03-09 22:03:00 Nope, in fact for the better part it's just "business as usual", until a security vulnerability comes out... Then you run the risk of having that vulnerability taken advantage of, just as though you'd booted a fresh Windows and hadn't turned on Windows Updates. Chilling_Silence (9)
