350269 2005-04-29 12:04:00 Hi guys

Got my brother an ECS KM400-M2 motherboard.

I put in the processor (AMD XP2600) and ram (Winbond 512MB DDR400) and bolted it into the case.

The PSU is a no brand 300W and I also put in the video card, a GeForce FX5500.

I put the switch (one I found in the cupboard off another computer) on the header and tried to power it on but it wouldn't work.

I tried all the headers and tested the PSU by itself (shorting the green and black) and it worked fine. The ATX power supply is in properly and there is no CPU power socket...

Whats going on?

cheers
Robert

350270 2005-04-29 12:38:00 plug everything in but leave the case open and connect the PSU to the socket, and check for a lit-up LED on the mobo, that shuld tell you if the mobo is working, or at least recieving power.

also make sure you havnt done anything dumb, is the power button connected to the mobo?

just to clarify, when you press the power button, nothing happens, or the PSU starts up, but then nuthin happens

350272 2005-04-29 12:54:00 It's a good idea to power up the motherboard before you fit it in the case, that way you can confirm it's all working. If you have a problem once it's fitted, then you can get to checking what has been added since the power up test.

One, not uncommon, problem could be a short from the stand-offs or mounting screws attaching the motherboard to case.

350273 2005-04-29 13:42:00 Now I know you said nothing..... but check very carefully, does the/any fans twitch a bit and then stop, or does it not even try to start? Check the power switch connection. george12 (7)
