349552 2005-04-27 23:54:00 On my start/Programs list I have an entry labelled K8NE_2kXP.

My motherboard is an Asus K8NE pro.

The enty can not be clicked on. As soon as the mouse pointer touches it , it opens a secondry list. This list has 50 files on it. They all begin "winxp_2k."
46 of them continue "ethernet nrm win 2k" this is followed by file names .
Two of the others are *.cab files.

Clicking on them produces either a "can't be opened" message or a "can't find" message

A right click gives a "delete" option plus otherthings.

What do you think this file Is? CAN I DELETE THE WHOLE THING ????

349553 2005-04-28 00:01:00 The contents of your motherboard CD??

I'd delete it. Its not likely to be your drivers...

349554 2005-04-28 00:14:00 Sounds Dodgey could be a piece of spyware  but it might be a system thingie so dont delete it or your pc might stuff up try Microsoft Antispyware :) For once the nerds :nerd: at microsoft have got it right and made a decent program (but only cause they copied off giant antispyware) it's currently a free beta program at the moment  so get it quick techiekid (7219)
349555 2005-04-28 00:20:00 Sounds like a shortcut to the contents of a zip file,or the temperary folder these files were unzipped into during install.

The file name indicates it is the Ethernet driver for your motherboard (didn't you install the drivers for this at a later date?)

Anyhow, they are shortcuts to files that would apear to be long gone, Either delete the entire shebang,or run a program that deletes broken shortcuts, such as System Mechanic and see if it red flags em.

MS Antispyware is not a copy, its the same program except MS have crippled it,removing suport for older operating systems and certain MS promoted hacks that are considered features by MS.

As for being free because its in Beta, MS have announced it will be free for home users for the life of the product.

And its not the holy grail, I have run it on multiple infected machines, then found many more entries straight after while running Spybot and Adawere. It maybe a good tool in the arsenal but is as useless as any other when used by itself.

How come my beta version has an expiry date attached to it? What happens when that date is reached ... does it self destruct?

349558 2005-04-28 00:45:00 Either a new Beta will be released,a Release candidate will be released,or the final version will be unleashed. Metla (12)
349559 2005-04-28 01:18:00 Well they are all deleted and my computer still works, so they must have been junk of some sort.
One interesting point. They could not be deleted with the del key. Had to delete each file seperately with right mouse key.

349560 2005-04-28 02:02:00 Tested a bunch of these progs the other day on an infected PC. MS Antispyware failed miserably. pctek (84)

I agree. I've had it for about three months. Didn't find a single thing in that time. I've now removed it. And good riddence to it.
