349442 2005-04-27 12:49:00 :help: Hi All,

Recently my computer has begun to have problems with the initial startup.

I press the "go" button to turn the computer on and the comp starts up but nothing comes on screen, no light to indicate the computer is working, nothing at all but the sound of the case running, I find that I have to press the "reset" button or turn the whole thing off and on again, a couple of times before it boots up correctly.

Once it boots up it runs fine, and will run for hours with no other problems..

Running Win XP Home, on Athlon 2400+, 1024MB RAM

Any ideas or suggestions? :help:

Thanks Muchly.

349443 2005-04-27 12:54:00 Hey, I had a similar problem . I think it's fixed .

Please post a more detailed list of the Hardware you're using .

Ram, Motherboard, Gfx card, Hdd, CD drives, PSU, PCI cards and cpu .

Do you use a USB Keyboard? I found this was the cause of another similar problem on an older computer I had .

AMD Athlon XP 2400+
1024 MB RAM
CDRW
40GB HDD
Asus motherboard (I think)

Yes I do use a USB keyboard, however this system has been untouched since my last upgrade probably nearly a year ago.

This problem has only started occuring in the last few days, but is becoming more regular.

Thanks

349445 2005-04-27 13:10:00 If you have access to a PS/2 Keyboard try plugging that in and see what happens .

Some other suggestions:

- Update to the latest BIOS version for your motherboard
- Turn off any over-clocking features or similar in the BIOS

Some more questions:
- Did anything change when/before this started happening? Any new hardware, new drivers, new downloads, errors or warnings?
-What Graphics card are you using?
-What power supply do you have?
-What brand is your RAM, is it configured in Dual Channel?
-What is the exact model number of your motherboard?

IF you need help finding this information out: Download CPU-Z ( . cpuid . org/download/cpu-z-128 . zip" target="_blank">www . cpuid . org) and then copy the information on the CPU, Memory and Mainboard tabs into this thread .

HAve a look, it will tell you the name and how many watts.

-What brand is your RAM, is it configured in Dual Channel? 1024MB DDR SD RAM
What BRAND? Is it dual channel??

-What is the exact model number of your motherboard? VIA Motherboard model VT8367-8233

Thats its chipset, what brand?? Should be written on it somwehere, in fairly biggish letters, ie: A7v8x, GA 8IPE1000G etc etc

I see my BIOS may need updating.. might look into that[/QUOTE]
