349817 2005-05-17 09:27:00 Yep, I've read that page, but I can't see the "Sales Manager" on it. Can you? :)Sales: sales@ascent.co.nz
I'm taking it "Sales" is the same as "Sales Manager" ;)

349818 2005-05-17 09:36:00 They're actually the exact same drive except different colours.

Sony CX320E (OEM Liteon SOHC-5232K). In this case I would need the Liteon so it would match the case colour.

Still doesn't make what Ascent did right.
They aren't the same. A Toyota is not a Nissan.
I'm on their side - you had a year to RMA it and you didn't. Whether they tested it or not is irrelevant. Its out of warranty. Why are you bothering to continue to test it - you already said its stuffed.
Take the Liteon.

They are the same. They are the exact same model. Sony has just stuck their logo on it. :illogical

I have already explained this earlier in the thread. I couldn't have emailed them before the warranty due date, because the drive was installed in my brother's computer and he was away at University from February till April. It started not reading any discs properly while he was at University. He told me of this while he was up there but I needed some time to test the drive to see if it was working properly, or decide something else was wrong with his system. No point claiming the DVD drive wasn't working if something else was causing the problem like the motherboard. My brother doesn't know much about PCs so it was better if I did it. So once he brought it home and I had verified it was faulty, then I emailed Ascent about it and then we realised it was just 5 days out of warranty.

Well Ascent said it was working, so yeah it would be better to definitely make sure it's faulty now wouldn't it before proceeding.

I don't have $60 right now for a new drive. Sure me buying a new one would solve the problem, but it's the principle of the matter. I shouldn't have to fork out for a new one. Ascent are in the wrong and I don't feel like giving them repeat business. I've spent over $3000 there with about 20 different orders. I'll just take my service elsewhere. No point dealing with thieves.

And drop the aggressive tone already.

349820 2005-05-27 11:17:00 Does anyone here want to help me test the drive? I'll pay for the $3.50 postage there and back. I would just need a quick report on what things work and what don't. I need to rule out that our systems are not the problem.

I had it in my computer again last night. It refuses to enable DMA on the drive so performance is very poor because it is in PIO mode transfer. I played a DVD and it skips and playback is very choppy. Then if you try and seek to a part in the movie it will just lock up.
