2005-05-01 00:28:00 | Okay. I swaped the cards over from 1 P/c to the other. SURPRISE, both are now being recognised. Sweet. Ping test as advised earlier. :-( Neither P/c can ping the other. Wouldn't it be boring if everthing worked like its supposed to.

2005-05-01 01:03:00 | Disable the Windows XP firewall. And any other firewall apps you might have running. | ninja (1671) | |
2005-05-01 01:04:00 | Are you running any antivirus programs or firewalls? If you have Zone alarm or similar you will have to configure it, same as for Win XP's firewall updated with SP2 You will also need to turn on File sharing and folder sharing, except that it is recommended not to share the root level of any drive as this will give a hacker full access. Try disconnecting your Net connection, disabling your firewall and then try the ping commands again.

2005-05-01 02:44:00 | I have Zone Alarm and AVG. No MS firewall. I tried disabling ZA and pinging. Still no result. Ping sent 4 packets and lost 4 packets. | Network_Noob (7218) | |
2005-05-01 02:49:00 | ExWesty you mention turning on file sharing. I've seen something on the 98 P/c so I think that one is Ok. Can you tell me how to check/turn it on in XP. cheers. | Network_Noob (7218) | |
2005-05-01 03:18:00 | I would've set up the XP computer's networking first, then the 98 one. Doing it the other way causes problems in my experience (especially when its just on crossover) | Agent_24 (57) | |
2005-05-01 03:35:00 | Have you set the ip addresses as previously advised? | wotz (335) | |
2005-05-01 03:55:00 | Yep, Ip addresses have been set. | Network_Noob (7218) | |
2005-05-01 08:32:00 | Yep, Ip addresses have been set. What IPs and Subnet masks are you using? How are your computers connected to the net?
