350029 2005-04-28 13:30:00 I was referreing to the not buying from DSE! Your guide was much better than mine.

I knew you were referring to the DSE also. Funny how meaning gets distorted eh?

Auckland is only closer if you aren't free. People who are free know that Masterton is closer and that there is no spoon

350031 2005-04-28 13:35:00 Don't get all Matrix-y on me! Too much for my tired head!

Bed for me, Ubuntu Hoary in the morning.

350032 2005-04-28 15:38:00 The guide's given above are good.

There is nothing wrong with DSE for buying a crossover cable.

Just make sure if the cable is going directly from one computer to the next you use a crossover cable.

350034 2005-04-29 11:35:00 Okay, heres the first of my 1000 new questions. I set up the kids P/c first (guinie pig) had a lot of problems with not finding files vredir.vxd, dfs.vxd and msnp32.dll. I searched the net and found a number of technical, complicated and/or crazy solutions. Then I found one that said "Remove the driver and reinstall it" The 98 P/c now appears happy to talk.
Right now for my XP pro P/c. Install the card, start up the P/c. It didn't detect new hardware. I have tried forcing it to load new hardware. I have tried the card in a different pci slot. All to no avail. No network card shows up in device manager. The card is new. I'm reluctant to take the one out off the 98 P/c, to test it in this one, incase I get all those problems again.
Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

350035 2005-04-29 12:31:00 Do any lights show up on the back of the card?
Do you have any other pci cards in you could shift around or try to check the motherboard is not stuffed.

350036 2005-04-29 13:28:00 Damn I hate computers. I just spent nearly 2 hours working out why I couldn't restart my P/c. NEVER leave driver floppies in when you restart. Dohh.
Yes Rob. They both have lights on around the back. The only other n/w card I have is in the 98 machine.

350038 2005-04-30 08:45:00 Have you tried swapping the cards between the two machines?

If the WinXP machine doesn't recognise the card that's already going then there's something wrong with the motherboard .

If the Win98 machine doesn't recognise the card that's not going already then there's something wrong with that NIC .

Don't worry about taking the going card out - If it works now it will work when you put it back .
