349498 2005-04-28 21:01:00 Well XP does have built in burning, but it isnt that great, and can't do what Nero can do.

Nero is WAY better than XP's built in burning.

I use Nero myself, and disabled XP's cd burning altogether.

349500 2005-04-28 22:35:00 Hi Speedy. How: I use Nero myself, and disabled XP's cd burning altogether. Scouse (83)
349501 2005-04-28 23:05:00 XP burning capabilities consist of selecting data and sending it to the cd drive, Alright to use in a jam but so many millions of miles away from Nero that I am amazed anyone would call it as good. Thats like comparing your shoes to a Formula 1 car.

Plod, The XP burning engine uses Adaptec technology. :)

349502 2005-04-28 23:10:00 Fact: There is nothing wrong with burning discs with XP, if you are after data coping. eg. files, songs, images, copying non-bootable discs, etc, etc.

If you want to do more than a data transfer, like making a movie, music or bootable disc you will need a program like Nero.

349503 2005-04-28 23:18:00 Fact: the inbuilt burning features of XP can cause conflict with real software, its recomended to be disabled if installing a better app.

Fact: On the 2 computers I regulary burn on the XP engine takes at least twice if not 3 times as long to create a finished cd,Not the actual burning time but the adding data to image crap and so forth, And neither of my 2 comps are sloutches.

Opinion:The interface Nero uses is just so damn logical when it comes to adding or deleting files, as is the file browser, plus the options to make multi-session cd's,set the burn speed etc etc, All this plus the many many options under the hood has me firing up Nero without a thought to the slow process of the inbuilt XP capabilities.

Its good to have, But I wouldn't want to make a habit of it.

349504 2005-04-29 00:26:00 The only conflicts I have come accross are with CD Creator software and XP Bruning.
Other than that I have seen no dud discs from me or anyone else.

I think XP is great because it dosent give novices options they dont know about, most of the people I come accross just want to put something on a disc and take it to another computer.

I do think the express version of Nero is great for most people, just have to teach them when they want to copy photos to a disc they are to use Data disc option.

349505 2005-04-29 00:32:00 What I can't wrap my head around is that a new install of Nero pretty much hides the Express shortcut and whacks a shortcut to Smart Start (think thats what its called) on the desktop, Which is a mess compared to the practical design of express. Metla (12)
349506 2005-04-29 00:38:00 Most of the time I delete the Smart Start and copy the express shortcut from the start menu Rob99 (151)
349507 2005-04-29 00:43:00 Yeah, I do it so fast that I couldn't even recall what it was called and had to look it up in Google.

Everytime in the past I have left it as the main door into Nero i get phone calls asking what the hell is this?
