2005-04-27 22:40:00 | Do I have to physically install a cd writer before installing the software? Thanks

2005-04-27 22:43:00 | Not really, But I would fit the drive first, The software maybe tied into the specific drive. It won't need to detect it to install but will probally be of no use untill the drive is fitted. Edit. Or are you saying you don't have a cd-writer to install? If so,just go ahead and install the software, though without a Writer I cant see the use of doing so.....And the chances that the Nero software will work on driver sourced from elsewhere aren't going to be great.

2005-04-28 02:45:00 | Valerie, I'm confused. Why would you want to install the software without the burner? Unless you just want to write ISOs' the software can't do anything without a burner. | Aurealis_ (7897) | |
2005-04-28 03:11:00 | Valerie, I'm confused. Why would you want to install the software without the burner? It is usual and recommended to install the software for certain items of hardware first, eg USB devices such as printers, cameras, USB flash drives, modems, etc so maybe the poster wanted to make certain that she got the order round the right way for installing the CD writer.

2005-04-28 04:31:00 | Anyway, it's a simple and reasonable question. My simple answer is "No, you don't need the drive. " It can't write without a suitable drive, but it should do everything else. ("Tied" versions I have seen fail when you try to write to a different drive model). If it's a full version, it will want a registration number to install. Why all the "you can't do that there 'ere" stuff?

| 349496 | 2005-04-28 08:49:00 | Thanks to all who read/replied . I had a little problem with the installer wizard terminating and wondered whether it was due to the hardware not being installed . I have solved the prob and yes, the software can be installed before the hardware and, for me, is handy as I was able to access the operating instructions before my handy-person was available to perform on the screws/wire hookups etc .
