350494 2005-05-01 11:04:00 Control panel / Modems and then a box that's got two listed but I think the 2nd is redundant. Highligted LT WinModem (the 1st one) and then Properties and then changed the speed to 19200 (sorry error earlier aboit it being 14000, doesn't appear) and then I checked "only connect at this speed" and now at the "hover over the monitors" it says 21600.

Has been varying (before I tried changing the speed) between 18 something and the max so far has been 33600. Doesn't seem to be any connection between the set speed and the "Hov. over the Mons." record. Much appreciate yr help. I wonder if it could something to do with drivers? I am a complete ignoramis about drivers. Never updated one. cheers........m
that box which you can change from 115200 to 19200 dosn't actually do anything much. (it only changes the speed at which the pc talks to the modem and even then it dosn't apply to a lot of modems)

you need to insert strings in the extra settings box eg +ms=v34 or +ms=11

There will not be any reference in the modem properties to Fax.

Have you a CDRom disk that came with the modem. Likely to have BitFax software on the CD. Possibly other Fax software could have come with the modem.

If so then install the software and use the instructions I gave you.

What make and model modem do you have?

I will suss out the driver for you. The driver is important but I still think the problem is line noise.

350497 2005-05-01 12:30:00 Gotta say I don't know really. I guess the LT in LT Winmodem means lucent and it's I suppose an internal Windows software modem but can't find any more deatails even in Device Manager. Short of taking it out (and this is a borrowed machine) can't figure any more details. Sorry..feel a bit useless. ypui lean something about comps and around the corner's a whole lot more. mark c (247)
