I would prefer that the error message is posted here, there is a great deal of knowledge and expertise contained within the membership of this forum.
some one else may have the answer.

Error messages can be cryptic to some people but very usefull to others.

But if you wish you can pm me. Click on my nicname and one of the options is to send a private message.

if you wish take a screen shot and post it on sals site giving us the url so that we may view it. Instructions on how to do this are in the forums FAQ 7 (www.pressf1.co.nz)

350571 2005-05-01 08:22:00 I HAVE RESOLVED IT!!
How? - I think it was like this.
I ran a virus check directly from the symantec web site and not through my system works software. It told me that there was no virus in my computer!!!, not a good start.
I then ran the symantec removal tool with the computer in safe mode.
This time it seemed to remove one more registry than before (5 instead of 4). I rebooted the system, this time in safe mode, and then rebooted it once more in normal mode, the symantec notice of a virus present did not appear .
So far things seem to be back to normal. All this was done with system restore off, but I have now enabled it again.
Thanks to you all for your help

I am far from knowledgable about computers and have been really struggling with this problem for 48 hours. I downloaded several programs and ran them with no luck. I read this thread and followed Ronmars method above to the letter and THANK YOU it's now resolved and has been for a few hours. Many thanks, Andy

350573 2005-05-01 18:54:00 It may sound like a stupid question, but as my knowledge in computer is still very limited, I have to ask :
How do you turn your computer in safe mode?
I am having the same problem than andy riker and ronmar.
Since this morning I receive an alert from my virus check telling me it found the same virus, and I can't get rid of it.
The difference with you guys is that it damaged my computer. When I log on into my computer everything is fine, but my boyfriend lost everything on its screen, every icons, programms, start key and task bar.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks

350574 2005-05-01 19:31:00 How do you turn your computer in safe mode?Welcome to PressF1 maiwenn123 :)

On most systems you can enter safe mode by pushing the F8 key as the computer is booting. Keep tapping it while the text is scrolling post during the initial stage of booting until you see a boot menu. Then use the arrows to select Safe Mode. If this doesn't work, then if you let us know what operating system you have and what brand/model your computer is then someone will be able to tell you the correct key to use.

This problem your boyfriend has with no desktop displayed, is this on the same computer but under his user account? Is his account an Admin and yours a general user account? You might have a different virus causing this.

Please post back if you need further help with this virus/trojan.

350575 2005-05-01 19:55:00 Hi Jen and thank you very much for your answer.
The problem with my boyfriend desktop is on the same computer under his user account.
We are both administrators.
It seems to be the same virus, as we both receive the same alert message.

If you have any ideas on how to resolve that I would really appreciate it.
Cheers

350576 2005-05-01 20:56:00 Hi Folks

I am experiencing gthe same problem. I keep gettin gthis message form NAV 2005 with a Virus Alert tab on. It reads HIGH RISK. Obj name: C:\windows\java\classes\urlwin.dll. Virus name: Trojan.Vundo.B and action Taken : unable to repair this file.
!st I have tried the symantec wesite by downloading the removal tool and followed all the steps. I got 4 registry removed. 1 was unable to delete. After running the NAV 2005 scan, I still had the message that my PC had the virus and I deleted it. After rebooting, the notification still appeared. I tried ronmar's suggestion on how he resolved it and I couldn't get my PC to start in safe mode. All I get is a green screen with my pc lock for more than 20 minutes. I had to manually reboot and retried and still same thing. I use Windows XP Professional and would be grateful if someone could help me.

Cheers.
Sol
PS: I also tried process explorer, but that didn't work either probably because I don't know how to launch Virus Scan On demand Scanner or I can't find it on my PC.
