350879 2005-05-01 02:11:00 Hello I have been running my DLink router through USB on windows XP and everything is working fine. I have another computer running windows ME that I would like to connect to the router as well (ethernet). I have brought and installed a network card and it is showing up as correctly installed and working in device manager. However when I run the xtra installation cd it says it cannot connect to modem. What could be the problem here? What is the best way to test windows ME can find the network card?
There is also the option of manual set up instead of using the xtra cd, I have a list of values: operating mode, vpi value, vci value, primary dns, secondary dns but am not sure where to enter these in windows ME.
Any help would be greatly appriciated! Thanks!

350881 2005-05-01 02:22:00 afaik most of the routers can't use ethernet + USB at the same time. check if your model does.

if its still set on default settings, change the USB to ethernet and set up the lan card settings. a little rusty here but i think you don't need the cd for ethernet connections. just set it to obtain IP address (which is normally default).

350882 2005-05-01 03:34:00 For ethernet you do not need the cd.

Just open a browser, type in the address 10.1.1.1

The username and password is "admin" for both.

If however you have already connected the XP comp to the net successfully then you wont have to enter anything there as the router will already have your login details. You should be able to connect to the net straight away.
