350762 2005-04-30 09:18:00 Setting up a network of 3 PCs with XP Home and notice that there isn't any 'Permissions' tab to assign rights . For example, I (Computer A) want to share this Folder with Computer B & Computer C but only allow Computer C to read only this folder but Computer B will have rights to read and edit the contents .

Is there a way to get around this problem?

Cheers

350763 2005-04-30 09:28:00 Did u enable file and printing sharing?

Did u make a folder and share it???

Not share the whole hdd on each PC???

Are all hdd's formatted in NTFS??

And I think u have to untick simple file sharing in Home to get the permissions tab . BUT I dont think Home has the file sharing option at all . Only Pro has .

It is NTFS formatted and have "Shared" the 'Folder'

I also notice that another XP Pro machine (connected to another Network) does not have this "Permissions" option . There must be somewhere to turn this on . I am pretty sure because another XP Pro machine has this option .

350765 2005-04-30 09:51:00 Yer on XP Pro its under My computer/tools/folder options/ view/ simple file sharing .

If this is unticked in Pro, you'll get the permissions tab .

If its ticked, you dont have to add a networked pc as a guest .

If this isnt there at all . You can't use it . Unless u go into safe mode first . With Pro u dont have to .
