351640 2005-05-03 04:02:00 Most times when I try to do a search through IE6 either useing Google, useing the address bar or useing the search function of another site I get a critical error. I have sent at least 20 of these to MS. After I have sent it and click on close, IE6 shuts down. The same problem also occurs when useing Firefox.
OS Windows XP Home SP2. P4 2.53, 1gb of ram.

351641 2005-05-03 19:38:00 Hi Trev

The fact this happens to two browsers now suggests that something underlying is not right. Odd behaviour like this can be attributed to spyware/malware/search hijackers etc. Have you done a thorough scan with your updated Antivirus? What antispyware apps do you have, and again have they been updated and then scanned the pc? Try both Ad-aware SE and Spybot Search & Destroy if you haven't already.

Failing all that, you might need to run HijackThis. You can download it from here (www.majorgeeks.com), and then post your log into this online analyser (www.help2go.com). If you are unsure about any of the result entries, just post that section here for advice. :)

Thanks for the reply.
I usually use a forum as a last resort for problems. In most case's I figure problems out for myself. (Comp. owner for 30 years.) HAve done all of the above you mentioned and I posted my Highjackthis log here on Saturday. Godfather checked it out for me and pointed out some entries which should not of been there which I have deleted. I run scans with MS Anti Spy and Nortons AV 2005. Also did a scan with house call which picked up a Trogan. I deleted that but problem still persists. I have used google this morning with no problems, but gaurantee later on today it won't work.

351643 2005-05-03 23:02:00 Just something else I have noticed, if I open a second browser window when I'm having this problem the text in the second browser window is not as sharp (blurry). At the moment I'm able to use google the text in the second browser window is clear and crisp.

351645 2005-05-03 23:14:00 Is this an unspecified critical error, is the same wording used for both browsers. You can turn of the sending of the info to MS, not sure if it hides any info from you similar to the auto-reboot, have never used it.

You say you used Hijackthis and AV, have you scanned with spyware app's such as Spybot and Adaware? The MS antispyware is pretty much limited to scanning and protecting MS products only, Firefox for eg, doesn't come into the picture.

Tried repairing IE?
