| 351571 | 2005-05-02 15:57:00 | I was just looking at the Asus website and saw this CPU upgrade Kit CT-479. Supposedly it allows you to run a socket 479 mobile pentium processor on a socket 478 mobo. From the write up it would seem it's geared at users who want cool, quiet computing without losing performance. Read more here (www.asus.com.tw) Is this really plausable? Surely a desktop CPU would be able to outperform the current mobile CPU's? I mean desktop FSB runs higher @ 800MHz? Your thoughts and comments appreciated. cheers chiefnz |

| 351572 | 2005-05-02 20:59:00 | You answered your own question - its for people who want cool and quiet. For instance a small case such as a shuttle where putting a big CPU cooler in it isn't practical. |

| 351573 | 2005-05-02 21:56:00 | Actually with some of the newer chipsets a slower clocked pentium m can outperform both AMD and Intel offerings, so it's not really even that slow. I believe some manufacturers are producing blade servers based on the pentium m now too. | BIFF (1) | ||
