| 352120 | 2005-05-04 22:11:00 | I have Windows XP running on my Compaq Presario 5400. Last weekend the system crashed and after every restore point just could not bring her back. When booting up was bringing up error messages about Explorer.exe. If I clicked on an icon would freeze. In the end I thought I would try and re-run the SP2 CD. Well that worked. Only problem is if I have to do a re-boot the problem is back. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME???????????? Ian. | ianhnz (4263) | ||

If so uninstall SP2 from add/remove then run a reg cleaner Then check your hardware configuration to ensure it is compatible with SP2 You may need a BIOS update for SP2 to install correctly If you are one of the unfortunates with a certain Celeron D & incompatible BIOS combination SP2 won't install unless you change your processor or update the BIOS (if there is an updated one available) I did a search on the 5400 but there appears to be a zillion different models listed under 5400 Do you have an exact model no.? Or some system specs? |

I did a search on the 5400 but there appears to be a zillion different models listed under 5400 ** It is model 5400 AU 1.5 Gb system, now about 18 months old, or so. |

Without that info we'll need to access a fairground Gypsy to diagnose it ;) Are you getting any Blue Screens (BSOD). If not, go into Control Panel > System > Advanced tab > Starup and recover and uncheck Automaticall restart if it's ticked. |
