2005-05-04 21:59:00 | I am trying to get my Third computer on line and on the network. Number one is XP Pro, Number two is XP Home (both are Laptops wep encrypted) number 3 is our old win98se PC. No1 can ping No2 & No3, I assume No2 can Ping No1 & No3(I am scared to touch it) But No3 cannot ping No1 or No2. I know it is probably the encryption thats causing the problem but how do I enable encryption (WEP64bit) on the Win98SE computer? Any takers? Cheers, Rob

Its not that easy setting it up for a wired network, let alone a wireless network network. I would also check whatever the wireless card is whether software came with it to set the encryption for wireless. |

2005-05-05 10:59:00 | if you disable encription and then it does work you will know what the problem is and it will stop you from looking everywhere for the problem - i changed the encription type and it worked and anyway WEP is crap anyway | noone (22) | |

2005-05-05 21:10:00 | Hmmm, sounds like the consensus is to change all the settings on all three computers and the wireless printer and the router to mac addresses and leave the network open. Just a thought, what is then to stop someone accessing the open network and adding the mac address of their computer? I know that WEP is not the best form of security, but it is something and I thought it would be the closest to compatible with the W98 computer. Rob

2005-05-06 00:55:00 | If I set the SSID to non broadcasting is there potential for me to get into a mess later if I need to change something? I mean if you lose your connection for some reason, how do you "see" your router to check the settings? | theother1 (3573) | |
