| 351849 | 2005-05-03 20:35:00 | I installed a new Soundblaster soundcard and installed the associated software. This not only corrupted a bunch of my files, it also prevented my old sound card from working. I removed all the software and hardware, restored my computer to an earlier date and reinstalled my old soundcard. All seems to be fine except for the fact that my sound doesn't work. When I try to play an audio file the following message appears: Bad DirectSound driver. Please install proper drivers or select another device in configuration. Error code: 88780078. Please note I have tried to update the driver information through several different ways but yet have no luck. I have also tried intalling the sound card in various ports, but still no luck. If anyone has any suggestions to help me get sound working again it would be greatly appreciated. |

Then download the latest driver for your new card. Put the new card in and wait for Windows to pick it up then point it to the new driver you downloaded. |

| 351851 | 2005-05-04 02:17:00 | I've tried removing the sound card completely....physically removing it and unistalling all the drivers. Then I put the card back in and windows detects the new hardware and installs the drivers for it. It says that the drivers for the new hardware has been installed and the device is working properly. Even after this I still don't have working sound and I get the same error. When looking at DirectX Diagnostic tool under the sound tab it has the following comment: No sound card was found. If one is expected, you should install a sound driver provided by the hardware manufacturer. However, when looking in device managere it shows my sound card and it doesn't have any error associated with it. |

DirectX not means the driver is wrong. Don't let WIndows choose the driver. Point it to the latest downloaded driver. You can make it look at a specific location for the driver. |
