352981 2005-05-07 04:04:00 I would have ended the convo by asking the persons name, telling them you had made a record of the conversation and then asked to be fowarded to someone who wasn't a retarded *****bag who wasn't capable of doing their lowend job. Metla (12)
352982 2005-05-07 04:39:00 I had the same problem with paradise and the help desk suggested i must have spyware on my system, for those that know me realise this isn't posible! Turned out it was paradise's fault. They are bloody useless sometimes. plod (107)

Paradise told one of my customers on Wednesday to format their PC because the PC was dialing up when it booted to desktop as it must have spyware on it.
This was after half an hour on the phone and on their advice changing just about every dialup setting there was to change! What a bloody mess.
True, it did have spyware on it but 5mins under my magic fingers solved the problem.
It took me 10mins to undo all the changes the "help desk?" suggested.
Where on earth do they get these idiots from?
They must hold their helpdesk training seminars at a home for the bewldered!!

352984 2005-05-07 05:56:00 There is no training. Xtra outsources to Teletech and they only requirement is "customer service" which consists of a phone speaking test. Apart from that they get a sheet to follow through - step 1: Get user to chnage settings. Step 2: Get user to recreate dialler. Step 3. Whoops, gone over the permitted 5 mins. Hang up. pctek (84)

That's not entirely accurate. They have reasonably comprehensive step-throughs for trouble-shooting Internet problems.

They do (or at least did) have some basic training. But generally they employed people that have at least a moderate amount of prior knowledge.

Yep and if its not on the sheet they don't know or if they lose their place....!!
But yeah, there are more experienced people, true, but you get the junior page readers first.

Seems a bit weird to meNot necessarily. Depends what the problem was, of course no ones actually bothered to ask that yet instead just raced on to slate helpdesks.

I hate Xtra as much as the next guy but put some intellect behind it first.

352988 2005-05-08 01:19:00 And your intellect tells you that there is a widespread SP2 glitch that affects net access that only Xtra's help desk have heard of and the best course of action is to take it up with MS?

Muhahahahaha.

Right.

more likly what they are refereing to is that sp2 limits the amount of connections. so if they are running p2p or any other crud in the background there "highspeed" net runs at snails pace.

but of course it just easier to say its MS fault ;) than it is to explain everything to a person who dosen't understand or want to know.

personally i find most connection problems to be caused by infected or poorly setup pc or telecom lines/exchange problems.
