My attempt at it got me several drives showing the same root partition. My C: (ntfs) is my primary drive hda no other partitions on that drive. Can anyone help please :help: Overdrive_5000 (4950)

The fact that there isn't an entry for it in /etc/fstab indicates that the autodetection hasn't found it. The fact that it's NTFS might be the reason for that. ;)

NTFS is a bit of a problem. It's not insuperable ... but I haven't had need to do it yet. The trick is that Linux has a bit of code which can capture the real MS driver, and wrap it up in such a way that the Linux can see the NTFS disk.

You will need to make a mount point for it (usually "/mnt/windows").
The /etc/fstab entry will be similar to the root ("/") and "/home" entries. The disk will be /dev/hda1 if it's the only partition ("hda" refers to the whole diskl; "hdaX" refers to partition X on the disk). Ubuntu might use the modern longwinded format instead of /dev/hdxY ... but you should be able to workit out. (The clever driver grabber might be smart enough to make the entry for you).

352711 2005-05-06 04:49:00 Overdrive go here (ubuntuguide.org) this is a really good set up guide for ubuntu which helps with all the other bits and pieces'

it is for version 4.10 (warty) but the fstab stuff is exactly the same for 5.04 (hoary),if you go to the top of the page there is a link to the Hoary version of the guide
