2005-05-07 04:50:00 | I use IrfanView to take screenshots, i.e. photos of what appears on screen. However, the hot key function does not work. Instead I use the time delay function. Is there another free program that allows me to take screenshots using a hot key? On the keyboard is a 'PrtScn' key - can this be used to take screenshots? I have tried but nothing happens. Thanks. - Steve_L

Which is why 1-step solutions have been developed. Personally I use Fraps, but that may only wok in-game. When Im taking a snapshot of my desktop I do it the old fashioned way.. |

2005-05-07 04:55:00 | Hi Steve, the Prt Sc button should say, "Ctrl + Prt Sc" i.e. hold the control button down and hit the print screen button at the same time and then you will have to paste it into irfanview. Another expert opinion bites the dust, I take all (or most) of the above back. The bit where I say "Hi Steve" is good.

2005-05-07 05:16:00 | Thanks for the PrtScn button advice . And Metla's "old-fashioned way", makes me wonder, but then just about everything that venerable Metla posts does in fact make me wonder . . . Anyway, what I really am looking for is a freebie program with a hot key function that works . Hmmnnn, I have IrfanView 3 . 91 . . . . . must check to see if there is a new version and if the hot key works .

2005-05-07 05:20:00 | If you hold Alt whilst hitting Print Screen you will get a screen save of just a window that may be open on your desktop, very useful when making up manuals about how to do something using a computer. Otherwise try this program: www.mirekw.com

2005-05-07 05:23:00 | Otherwise try this program: . mirekw . com/winfreeware/mwsnap . html" target="_blank">www . mirekw . com Looks good - thanks - will download and give it a whirl . MWSnap is a small yet powerful Windows program for snapping (capturing) images from selected parts of the screen . Current version is capable of capturing the whole desktop, a highlighted window, an active menu, a control, or a fixed or free rectangular part of the screen . MWSnap handles 5 most popular graphics formats and contains several graphical tools: a zoom, a ruler, a color picker and a window spy . It can be also used as a fast picture viewer or converter . MWSnap does not require installation and does not need any special dlls, drivers or system files which can mess up your system .
