| 353343 | 2005-05-08 20:33:00 | The other day something in my win2k PC knocked the the worm protection in Nortons 2005 for six and norton's recommended reinstalling. Groan! but I've done it once before and it was time consuming but not taxing. Not so this time. The uninstall worked, or so it seemed, but the install wouldn't. So, I went to the Symantec site and read up on the threads which are also mentioned here: pressf1.pcworld.co.nz I uninstalled winfax pro (hows that for a nifty way to ensure people are licensed - make them uninstall everything and then reinstall, if you've borrowed a copy you're stuffed) - which was licensed. I ran SymNRT.exe (and I know it says it's not 100% but you'd think it would help) I ran hijackthis and deleted 3 remaining registry entries. But it still won't install. I've installed a trial of AVG professional but I'm loathe to pay 2x for anti virus protection and given the problems I've had I don't want to trust the free version (which is prone to false positives, so what about false negatives?) Any ideas on where to go next? |
