353328 2005-05-08 18:41:00 i have a problem with my internet connection i was wondering if any of you nice people :) could help me

my broadband line speed is 2MB with 200kbps when i download programs through internet explorer or through a download accelerator eg 'free download manager' the speeds can reach maximum rates depending on the traffic on the servers that is fine :) but my problem is when i try to use p2p programs like morpheus, emule or kazaa my transfer speeds upload and download can't go higher than 5kbps that is the speeds of a modem lol

why is this happening? do any of you guys have any ideas? i can't figure it out please post your opinions :)

353329 2005-05-08 20:32:00 Welcome to PressF1 :)

Some ISP's will limit the speeds for P2P programs. They can do this because they use different ports than normal web browsing applications. Call your ISP and ask if this is their policy.

353331 2005-05-08 21:00:00 also depends on the connection speed of the person sharing plod (107)

what happened was that recently my isp got cheaper speeds rate prices and gave me a faster speed with i didn't order for the amount i was paying for, i was downloading at speeds 5 times faster than the one i subscribed for

this new speed i was getting was capped for 2GB downloads a month i reached my limit and that's why my connection speeds wouldn't go higher

i could have chosem to activate this option to pay extra for every 1GB i downloaded thereafter but i chose not to, got back my subscribed normal speeds and it's all well again

thanks for all the replies guys
