353196 2005-05-08 02:10:00 Hello all, I found this board just now after googling for some computer help. Maybe you guys can help me out.

I just did a clean install of Windows XP and am having an issue within my device manager. Under "other devices" I have a conflict (exclamation point, i think means conflict?) with the "Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller.

I have searched the net for so long and cannot find anything to help me with this problem. Do you guys know how I can solve this issue? I read somewhere that it might have something to do with "IRQ", however, I have no clue what that means.

Thanks in advance!

353197 2005-05-08 02:13:00 well the most comman problem is forgetting to install the motherboard drivers. either use the disk that came with your pc or download them from the makers site.

have you got sp1 or sp2 installed ?

353198 2005-05-08 02:18:00 Hello Tweak'e,

I am assuming I have SP1 installed since I just did a clean XP install and it prompted me to install SP2. I did not install any motherboard drives. I went to the website, www.emachines.com, and downloaded all support drivers and installed them.

However, there weren't any 'motherboard' drivers on the website for my model, M5312, unless I missed it. Will double check. Unfortunetely, I purchased this laptop a while ago refurbished so I do not have the original cd.

Thanks for the quick reply.

353199 2005-05-08 02:26:00 you will need to find some info about your laptop. try this (www.majorgeeks.com) handy program.

it should give info on what chipsets you pc uses and even manafactures websites.

353200 2005-05-08 02:38:00 Ok, I have downloaded this tool and have a bunch of information. What am I looking to do with it? Upgrade the chipset items? rs2183 (8061)
353201 2005-05-08 04:28:00 what your looking for is manafacture of the chipset. most likly intel, via or sis.
also check what make of pc you have (quite comman to have a rebadged pc). go to site it lists to download the drivers (it dosn't always list tem so you may have to google).
