353147 2005-05-08 06:47:00 winsock fix (www.snapfiles.com) (i had it bookmarked :)) Prescott (11)
353148 2005-05-08 07:47:00 I think kjaada's advice was very sound.

really?? ......suprising comeing from you billyT.

there hasn't been enough info to give advice on let alone "good" advice.

we don't know if its been an install issue (eg system file been over written), a incorrectly ID'ed malware (possible DNS removal) or an odd ver of malware incorrectly removed breaking winsock.

you can post all night with guesses but without further info tracing the exact cause is fairly remote.

353149 2005-05-08 09:45:00 you can post all night with guesses but without further info tracing the exact cause is fairly remote.

I don't disagree at all tweak'e, but given that inadequate information was provided, kjaada's post was actually on the nail. Maybe he didn't know any more himself, and maybe he could have asked for more information, but nobody else did either.

As I pointed out, changing programs willy-nilly is not exactly a diagnostic technique.

Cheers

353150 2005-05-08 09:55:00 Half the solutions in this forum come about by throwing as much **** at the wall as possible and seeing what sticks...brought about by the fact that we sometimes have little to go on and the poster has little understanding of the issue.

If your sole input is to bag others that are at least trying to help then you would be better keeping it to yourself, and that includes BillyT.

353151 2005-05-08 20:50:00 All this debate is all very well but is the problem solved ???? kjaada (253)
353152 2005-05-09 00:00:00 kjaada, imagine a forum where you posted yr problem and all you got back was one reply with the correct answer .

OK, if you want to pay for it and have no fun .

Part of the the good stuff about forums like this is the very inaccuracy of responses, coming from a wide variety and experiences and levels of expertise, it helps you learn . Geez, people are trying to help and I can't see the point dissing us because we don't solve it straight off .

Comps are either hideously complicated or wonderfully complicated, depending on yr point of view . I go for the latter and enjoy the problem solving and the posts that are way off you have to sort out yourself . That's OK . Geez dude, it's fun .

You might note that while a lot of forum members have posted their suggestions the original poster hasn't replied to anything .

353153 2005-05-09 01:44:00 Not all that good if you are on the receiving end of advice which really stuffs up your system. My point was:
Do not be rushed in to deleting apps and doing other things.Generally someone will come along who has had the problem OR
someone will come up with a solution which can be verified before you rush in to it.There is always someone "out there" who knows, there are also a lot,and I have to put myself in this catagory on some things even though I have had a PC
since BEFORE WINDOWS that think they have the be all end all setup.I do try to avoid the trap of advising,"I have this it must be the best or the solution"
Have a nice day and help this bloke if you have a proven solution.

353154 2005-05-09 02:34:00 Does my answer in this thread (pressf1.co.nz) help? andrew93 (249)
353155 2005-05-09 04:25:00 At last we have an answer.
Not just a mabe or an if but a genuine 'Been ther done that" which
looks plausable.
I rest my case
