2005-05-09 06:48:00 | Hey people. Could you please give me some opinions on Intel P4, socket 478 and LGA775's, as I am looking to get another pc in a month or so's time. I would like some opinions on which is better and some reasoning to support your opinion. Thanks, Luke.

2005-05-09 07:09:00 | Socket 478 is getting old now. | pctek (84) | |
2005-05-09 07:34:00 | LGA775 has support for the newer, faster CPUs including features like EMT64, TM2, EIST, the newer 6xx CPUs with 2MB L2 cache, also support for the 8xx dual core CPUs if you get a nForce 4 or 955X motherboard. Depends what your uses are, need more info. LGA775 would be more future proof but you'll have to get DDR2 RAM which is not the best performance wise. Or you could get a hybrid board if you wanted to use DDR RAM.

2005-05-09 07:49:00 | So are you saying that Normal DDR ram performs better than DDR2?? I intend to be doing video editing for home use with this pc. Also, is a SATA or Normal IDE HDD better to use? I hear that sata is faster but rearly/never used the full bandwidth avalible?

2005-05-09 07:52:00 | Nothing wrong with P4 478 cpus dealing with video editing . I do video editing here with a video cam via firewire, using a P4 2 . 4 . And burn whatever to DVD . It does the trick . You dont notice much diff with SATA . I use a SATA as the main hdd on this . I dont notice any diff at all . If you want to do video editing, it'll be a good idea to get a big hdd .

2005-05-09 07:59:00 | Yes, a 478 would do the job quite sufficiently but I am thinking of future proofing too. I was also thinking of a 120gb or 200gb HDD. Any Opinions on DDR vs DDR2??

2005-05-09 08:09:00 | No it does not, but at this stage im most likely going to get an LGA775. Does 512mb DDR2 outperform 512mb DDR, and by how much.
