| 353455 | 2005-05-09 06:01:00 | Current system P4 2.8 Asus P4C800-E/Deluxe Twinmos DDR400 Dual-Channel 256MB x4 Winfast FX5600 Seagate 120G x 2 Asus DVD Writer Foxconn 115 Case with 350w PSU I want to upgrade to be able to play the latest games At 1024x768 in high detail. Obviously that means replacing the FX5600. My thinking was with a 6600 GT (or possibly a 6800 GT or X800 XT). My questions are: Will I need to upgrade the PSU (or even the case)? Will I get much of a performance boost by using higher quality Ram? (Something like Corsair 2 x 512MB DDR400 TwinX LL Dual Channel Memory Kit PRO Series). Opinions please. |

| 353458 | 2005-05-09 07:33:00 | Depends on how much money you have to play with really . 1 . Upgrade the psu for a more powerful one that has a good brand name,no generic ones . Just take the old one out and put new one in,can get the shop to do it for you and keep the old one for a spare part . some good psu read up on them, do a google search . Antec neo 480 watt, Enermax,420watt,485watt OCZ modstream,450 watt 2 . 6600gt would be fine and is at a good price its the best bang for buck and all you need for that resolution . The others are better but you pay for it $$$ 3 . You have a 1gb of ram so thats good . :thumbs: 4 . Case as long as you have a 80mm/120mm fan at the front bringing cold air in and a fan at the back taking hot air out you should be ok thermal wise . (heat wise)Can always cut/put a fan on the side cover for more cold air in,if needed |

| 353459 | 2005-05-09 07:57:00 | 1GB of RAM in 4x256 configuration isn't that good, you will lose PAT performance. 2x512 is better, but I would upgrade the video card and PSU first. 6600GT would do what you want at 1024x768, but that's a low resolution to be running at, you could get better out of it. |

| 353460 | 2005-05-09 20:33:00 | Yes I would say get a new PSU . The X800XT isn't as much of a power hog as the 6x00's are . You could go for the cheaper 6x00's and then use whatever spare dosh you have on a new PSU (400W or above) Personally I recommend the X800XT . . . it's a reallly good card and I'm not saying the GF 6x00's aren't . . . after quite a bit of research it was the best buy as far as Iwas concerned . If you go with the Radeon card try to get one with VIVO the RAGE THEATRE chip kicks some serious butt . Let me just say that whether you buy the GF series or the Radeon series you will still need a PSU that not only supplies enough "juice" to your rig but it must also be a quality brand name . . . . Enermax, Task, Antec etc . I have a 520W Task PSU and it serves me very well . Do not skimp on your PSU, buy a decent one 1st up to prevent you from having to replace other PC components or your entire PC even . cheers chiefnz |

| 353462 | 2005-05-10 11:44:00 | A good choice and you will see the difference between the fx 5600 card and the 6600gt card. Dont forget to plug it to the psu for the extra juice. Check out www.hardwarezone.com it has an article on agp 6600gt cards and which one they think is the best.( a good review.) |
